Favorite Quote Friday #39

Happy Friday!  I hope my friends in Florida made it through the storm safely.  It is hot, hot, hot in my neck of the woods, with temps reaching 105 degrees in the shade.  Which is why I've been staying inside and writing like crazy while my air conditioner struggles to combat the heat.  I'm very excited about the progress I've made on the novella I'm writing for the Predatory anthology.  The title will be In Still Darkness.  What do you think?  I've been spending so much time writing that I've fallen behind on just about everything else and haven't spent much time online.  But I had to make an exception today for my favorite segment:
Today I've chosen a snippet that actually highlights not one but two of the heroes in my Immortal Guardians series.  Roland Warbrook, well over nine hundred years old, is the hero of the first book – Darkness Dawns.  Marcus Grayden, over eight hundred years old, is the hero of the second book – Night Reigns.  The two immortals have been friends for centuries and, despite Roland's trust issues and antisocial reputation, are as close as brothers.  In fact, Marcus is probably the only immortal in whom Roland might confide.  In today's quote, taken from Night Reigns, Marcus addresses Roland, who then responds:

You've never stressed over fighting vampires before.

I've never had anything to lose before.  What I have with Sarah . . . I don't ever want anything to jeopardize that, Marcus.  I don't ever want to lose her.

I love Roland's relationship with Sarah.  ;-)

I hope you're all beating the heat!  Have a fantastic weekend!

Favorite Quote Friday #38

Happy Friday!  It's time once again for Favorite Quote Friday!  Today's selection is taken from Night Reigns, the second book in my Immortal Guardians series.  In it, Seth (the leader of the Immortal Guardians) and Marcus (the hero) are talking about Ami (the heroine):

    Seth grinned, chest swelling with pride. “I told you she could kick your ass.”
    Marcus laughed. “I believe she could.”

I had such fun revisiting these characters in Phantom Shadows.  I don't know how I'll ever give them up.  :-)

I hope you had a good week and will have an even better weekend! Take care!

Favorite Quote Friday #37

Hi, all!  I hope you've had a great week thus far!  I had such a good writing day yesterday and hope to have another one today.  I'm so excited about the Immortal Guardians novella I'm working on for the Predatory anthology!  I hope you won't get tired of hearing about it.  ;-)

Just a reminder, I'm participating in the Shameless Summer Giveaway Hop.  Today is the last day you can enter to win a signed copy of either Darkness Dawns or Night Reigns (winner's choice) + Immortal Guardians swag.  Thank you, everyone who has already joined the fun!  There are lots of other prizes up for grabs at the other stops on the hop, so enjoy!
It's time again for Favorite Quote Friday!  Today's selection is taken from Night Reigns, Book 2 in my Immortal Guardians series.  It is spoken by Ami, the heroine, to Marcus, the hero:

“I know what it is to lose your compass. To suddenly find yourself floundering without direction, far from the path you were treading. How . . . exhausting it can be, knowing you’ll never find that path again, to just trudge forward anyway, forcing one foot in front of the other again and again in what feels like an utterly useless endeavor. I know what it is to live without hope.”
~Ami~

I love Ami's character.  I'm glad Marcus found her.  :-)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Favorite Quote Friday #36

Happy Friday!  I hope your week has been a good one!  Mine was good, but very hot.  Temps here keep creeping closer and closer to the century mark.  It was 98 in the shade again one day, but we did finally get a little bit of rain.

I wrote and turned in a synopsis of the novella I'm writing for the Predatory anthology, which will include stories by Alexandra Ivy and Nina Bangs.  It's a story that's been rambling around in my thoughts ever since I wrote Night Reigns, so I'm excited.  :-)  I'm also designing some new Immortal Guardians swag and hope to order it by the end of the weekend.  Woohoo!

And now it's time for Favorite Quote Friday!  For today's segment, I've chosen a narrative quote from Night Reigns told from the point of view of Melanie, a secondary character who will be the heroine in the next book – Phantom Shadows):

The immortal’s eyes closed. An expression of such anguish contorted his handsome features. Such pain. His hand tightened on the handle of the sword, crushing it and cutting his palm. Blood drip-drip-dripped onto the metal guard, then slithered down the blade like a crimson snake.

I like Melanie.  It takes a lot of guts to work on a daily basis with vampires who could succumb to violent bursts of insanity at any given moment.  :-)

Have a fantastic weekend!

Shameless Summer Giveaway Hop

Today is the first day of the
Shameless Summer Giveaway Hop!

The Shameless Summer Giveaway Hop runs from 12:00am June 8th through 11:59pm June 15th and is hosted by Red Hot Books, Romance Around the Corner, and Michelle's Book Blog.
Participating authors and bloggers are giving away books, swag, and other book related prizes.  So, for my contest, I've decided to give away the winner's choice of either a signed copy of Darkness Dawns or a signed copy of Night Reigns (the first two books in my Immortal Guardians paranormal romance series) + some Immortal Guardians swag.  :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once, Sarah Bingham's biggest challenge was making her students pay attention in class. Now, after rescuing a wounded stranger, she's landed in the middle of a battle between corrupt vampires and powerful immortals who also need blood to survive. Roland Warbrook is the most compelling man Sarah has ever laid hands on. But his desire for her is mingled with a hunger he can barely control . . .
In his nine centuries of immortal existence, no woman has tempted Roland as much as Sarah. But asking her to love him is impossible -- when it mean forfeiting the world she's always known, and the life he would do anything to protect.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ami isn't much for trusting strangers.  She has a hard time trusting anyone.  But she's no coward, and she's no pushover in the protection department either.  So when she comes across a mysterious warrior taking on eight deranged vampires on his own, she doesn't hesitate to save his bacon.  Of course, that was before she realized what one little rescue would get her into . . .

Marcus Grayden has been an immortal protector of humanity for eight hundred years, and at the moment he's not interested in backup.  From the moment Ami arrives in his life, he can't deny that she's strong, smart, and extremely skilled at watching his back.  But she's also destroying his protective solitude and stirring desires he can't bear to awaken.  After all, whatever her secrets -- how can she defeat death itself?

Favorite Quote Friday #35

Hi again!  How was your week?  I'm feeling very good because I met my Phantom Shadows proofs deadline and have gotten a nice start on another writing deadline that's coming up next week.  I hope your week went well, too.  And, if it stormed in your area, I hope you stayed safe!  :-)

Buffy's

Thank you, everyone who joined me over at Buffy's Ramblings, where I was interviewed yesterday!  If you didn't have a chance to join us, there's still time to drop by and enter for a chance to win your choice of either a signed copy of Darkness Dawns or a signed copy of Night Reigns + Immortal Guardians swag.  See you there!
It's time again for Favorite Quote Friday!  I wrote so many quotes down as I read through Phantom Shadows' copyedits and proofs.  I can't wait to start posting them later this summer.  Until then, I thought I would post a quote from Darkness Dawns in which Bastien addresses Roland, the hero:

“So,” he spoke, his attention focused on Roland, “it’s true then. You can’t imagine my disappointment when I arose, expecting to be handed your remains in a coffee can and was instead informed that you had been rescued.”

Have I mentioned that Bastien's past is a complicated one?  :-)

Have a fantastic weekend!
