A long spate of cloudy, thunder-boomy days finally brought an end to our excruciatingly hot, record-breaking, triple-digit temperatures. Here's another sneak peek into the pages of Simone and Janwar's story.

Janwar glanced at Simone.

 

A wide smile lit her features as she peered over the chunks of ice that hid them and studied the frigid surface below.

 

He shook his head as affection welled up within him, dampening some of his concern. “You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”

 

“Absolutely,” she answered, her voice full of enthusiasm. “I have now visited an alien planet and an alien moon. I’ve become an honest-to-goodness space explorer.”

 

He loved this sweet, innocent side of her. If she weren’t wearing a helmet, he would smooth a hand over her hair and lean in for a kiss. “What are you thinking?” he asked, curious to know what thoughts tumbled through her sharp mind as she studied the landscape.

 

“Right now? Part of me is imagining you naked inside that armor.”

 

Surprised, he laughed. Perhaps innocent wasn’t the right word.

No one waited in line at the counter, thanks to Dagon and Eliana’s tardy entry.

“Morning, Kusgan,” she trilled when the elder Segonian stepped up to the counter.
 
Kusgan greeted her with a wide smile. “And how are you today, ni’má?”
 
“Hungry,” she declared. “What do you have for me? Something spicy, I hope?”
 
“Indeed.” When Kusgan turned his attention to Dagon, his eyes sparkled with amusement as though he had guessed just how and with whom she had worked up an appetite. “And for you, Commander?”
 
“The usual.”
 
His lips twitched. “A larger portion perhaps?”
 
Dagon laughed. “I would appreciate that, yes.”
 
Heat crept up her neck to her cheeks. As Kusgan turned away and headed into the kitchen, she leaned closer to Dagon and whispered, “Am I blushing? Because I feel like he’s guessed why I’m so hungry and you’re all smiles this morning.”
 
He regarded her cheeks with a grin. “Yes, you’re blushing.”
 
Groaning, she brought her hands up to cover her face. “Curse my pale skin,” she grumbled. “It won’t let me hide anything.”
 
“Would it make you feel better if Iblushed?”
 
She peeked up at him through her fingers. And as she watched, his cheeks flushed a vivid pink, demonstrating anew his ability to change his coloring at will.
 
Laughing in delight, she dropped her hands. “Yes!” Then she poked him in the chest as the heat in her own cheeks faded. “I dare you to walk around like that all day.”
 
Smiling, he abandoned the pink camouflage and let his face return to its natural color. “If I did, the men would get no work done because they’d all be too busy wondering what the srulyou did in bed that left me blushing for hours afterward.”
 
Eyes widening, she laughed. “You’re right. Don’t do it.”

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday! Since I"m still celebrating Release Week, I thought I would share a brief excerpt of The Lasaran that features Taelon and Lisa (the hero and heroine):

“I would protect you with the last breath left in my body, Lisa.”

She believed him. Sliding her fingers into his hair, she drew his head down and claimed his lips in a longer, deeper kiss. His arms tightened around her. His tongue delved inside to stroke her own. Desire swept through her, heating her blood and driving her to fist his hair.

He groaned. And Lisa knew it wasn’t from pain this time, but need. He buried one hand in her hair and tilted her head so he could deepen the kiss even more. His other hand caressed her back and pressed her closer, reminding her that they were both naked.

What the hell was she doing?

She broke the kiss and stared up into emerald green.

Taelon affected her in ways no other man had.

“What are we doing?” she whispered.

A twinkle of mischief entered his eyes. “Breaking a number of Lasaran laws.”

Her lips twitched. “Aside from that.”

He shook his head. “I don’t know. I’m so drawn to you, Lisa.”

“I’m drawn to you, too.”

Many of those who have already read/listened to it have been asking when Book 2 will release. I don't have a release date yet, but I'm writing it now and am having a lot of fun with it.
