Paperback

New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall brings readers the first novel in a thrilling new sci-fi romance series full of action, intrigue, humor, and happily-ever-afters.

Taelon searches the galaxy for his younger sister, who mysteriously disappeared while on a diplomatic mission. When an ally reveals that she was seized and is being held prisoner on Earth, Taelon descends upon the blue planet, intent on freeing her and exacting vengeance. However, all does not go as planned. Before he can find her, Taelon is captured and becomes the subject of torturous experiments. For what feels like an eternity, all he knows is pain and fury… until a mind tentatively touches his own and a woman’s voice forever changes his world.

After suffering tragic losses, Lisa is finally beginning to carve out a future for herself when chance sends her to the Anomalous Cognition Research Institute. What at first appears to be a benign organization seeking participants for a psychic study instead turns out to be a government facility harboring a much darker intent. Lisa discovers this too late and soon becomes the unwilling subject of a terrifying experiment. Just as fear and desperation threaten to consume her, a deep, compelling voice penetrates the looming insanity and lends her hope.

Having seen only the worst of humanity, Taelon is shocked when Lisa risks everything to free him. Together the two make their escape, and Taelon finds himself fascinated by the small human woman who—despite all she’s suffered—can still laugh and tease and lure smiles from him. Friendship swiftly grows between them as they work together to evade soldiers intent on capturing them and find themselves hunted by mystifying preternatural beings. Through it all, Lisa steadfastly remains by his side, stealing more of his heart each day while she helps him unravel the mystery of his sister’s fate. Can they find his sister before the hunters find them? If they survive their quest, will Taelon have to bid Lisa farewell… or can he coax her into leaving her planet and joining him for the adventure of a lifetime?

The audiobook is still #1 on Audible's Since Fiction Romance Bestseller List. And I'm hearing great things from those who have already started listening to it.
I can't wait to listen to it myself. đŸ˜‰

I always like to give you a peek into the pages on Release Day, so here's a brief excerpt of The Lasaran that features Taelon and Lisa:

Dipping his head, Taelon brushed his lips against hers in a light kiss. “Thank you.”

Her heartbeat picked up. “Thank you for protecting me,” she whispered. If he hadn’t been so intent on keeping her safe, he might’ve learned where his sister was.

“I would protect you with the last breath left in my body, Lisa.”

She believed him. Sliding her fingers into his hair, she drew his head down and claimed his lips in a longer, deeper kiss. His arms tightened around her. His tongue delved inside to stroke her own. Desire swept through her, heating her blood and driving her to fist his hair.

He groaned. And Lisa knew it wasn’t from pain this time, but need. He buried one hand in her hair and tilted her head so he could deepen the kiss even more. His other hand caressed her back and pressed her closer, reminding her that they were both naked.

What the hell was she doing?

She broke the kiss and stared up into emerald green.

Taelon affected her in ways no other man had.

“What are we doing?” she whispered.

A twinkle of mischief entered his eyes. “Breaking a number of Lasaran laws.”

Her lips twitched. “Aside from that.”

He shook his head. “I don’t know. I’m so drawn to you, Lisa.”

“I’m drawn to you, too.”

Favorite Quote Friday #81

Happy Friday!  What a week!

Predatory was released Tuesday (Woohoo!) and is now available in paperback and ebook format.  I'm excited to say it hit Barnes and Noble's Top 100 Nook Book list.  :-)  The audio book will be released on May 15th.

Reviews are steadily rolling in, and I'm so thrilled by the responses my Immortal Guardians novella "In Still Darkness" is getting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales & Fantasy gave Predatory a fantastic review.  :-)
"Any of these stories are worth the price of the book all four together make it a steal. Check it out and take a bite out of your PNR hunger pains."
Here's what she said about "In Still Darkness":
"I will admit, I got this book for this story and was thrilled that Ms. Duvall told it so wonderfully. Dianne Duvall continues her Immortal Guardians series with this wonderful story. Telling us just what Richart has been up to and why he keeps disappearing. It has been mentioned a few times in the previous books and Ms Duvall does an excellent job of telling his story . . ."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

J9 at The Book Vixen said she would "recommend paranormal romance fans buy this one."  She then thrilled me by adding:

"I *adored* Duvall’s story, In Still Darkness. It’s rare that a love story I’ve been waiting for lives up to its hype but this totally did. Richart is the Immortal who can teleport and he was involved in a secret love affair with a human in the first three books in the series and we finally get to see his love interest, Jenna . . .  Jenna’s son plays a charming and believable character and the Immortal Guardians I’ve come to adore in the series have short roles here too which rounds out a perfect story."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Books and Things gave Predatory a great review, too, and deemed it:
"an entertaining book. Great for introductions to other PNR worlds which is what I think this book was all about. It pulled it off nicely."
Here's what she said about "In Still Darkness":
"I love this world and the stories and this one was just so much fun going back to that world and learning about another character."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just a reminder, Brend Novak's Annual Online Auction for Diabetes Research is underway.  Bidding continues through May 31st.  You can find my listing — 4 books signed to the winning bidder, 5 cover flats, 3 postcards, 3 bookmarks, and 3 trading cards — HERE.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's time again for Favorite Quote Friday!  Since Predatory was released this week, I thought I'd offer up another quote from "In Still Darkness."  Today's selection is a narrative quote told from Jenna's point of view during a romantic dinner for two:
He winked.
Her pulse jumped.
The front door rattled as a key slipped in and unlocked it.
Aaaaaaand the moment’s over, she thought as her son opened the door and entered.
Thank you all for making this week so awesome!
Have a great weekend!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday!  I'm so thrilled by the reviews that have been pouring in for Predatory, particularly those for "In Still Darkness," my contribution.  Richart's story has been with me since I started writing Night Reigns, Book 2, so I'm glad reviewers are enjoying it.  To celebrate Predatory's upcoming release on Tuesday, I've chosen a narrative quote from "In Still Darkness" that is told from Richart's POV:

He hadn’t felt this drawn to a woman since before his transformation.  She made him forget the dark violence that was such a large part of his existence, made everything somehow less tedious, so he actually looked forward to rising each day, eager to see her again.

I hope you'll join me on my tour!

Have a great weekend!

Favorite Quote Friday #59

Happy Friday!  I've had a very rough week and hope yours has been better.  I even got stuck in an elevator.  Very irritating.  I did receive some good news, though, regarding the Immortal Guardians series that I thought I would share.  Books 4-6 will all be released in audiobook form in addition to the paperback and ebook formats.  I was very happy to hear it.

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday!  I just read back through a scene in Book 4 that features Lisette, one of three immortal siblings in my series.  Her character is leading me in a different direction than I had originally envisioned for her, and I'm really liking it.  So for today's selection, I chose a quote from Phantom Shadows in which Lisette speaks as she struggles to keep a door closed:

"Now they've gone and gotten a battering ram.  How rude."

I finally have a hero in mind for her and will enjoy writing their story.  :-)

Romance Book Junkies

Phantom Shadows is in the spotlight at Romance Book Junkies.  Drop by and enter to win a signed copy of one of the first three Immortal Guardians books + swag.  :-)

Have a wonderful weekend!

Catching Up

Hi, Everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend!  Hope you enjoyed a safe holiday weekend.  We're experiencing the worst drought we've had in 50 years here, so I admit I was a bit worried someone in the neighborhood might ignore the fireworks ban and end up starting a fire, but no one did.  Not here at least.  Some teenagers started a grass fire across town.  It was actually . . . not eerie, but weird . . . not hearing fireworks for the first time ever on the 4th.  Fireworks, I believe, have always been banned here in the city, but people often manage to sneak them in anyway and put on shows in backyards.  This year?  Nothing.  Residents must really have taken the fire hazard seriously.

So how did you spend the 4th?  At the beach?  Barbecuing?  A family gathering?  Attending parades?  Curling up with a good book?

I spent it with family.  My facebook and twitter friends may have noticed I tend to disappear entirely from the internet on most weekends because I deem weekends family time . . . which is one of the reasons I can never seem to catch up on email, facebook, etc. *sigh*

ON THE WRITING FRONT
I have BIG NEWSTantor Audio is publishing my Immortal Guardians series!  Woohoo!  Darkness Dawns is scheduled for release on July 25th.  (You can Pre-Order it from Amazon.)  It will be read by Kirsten Potter:
Kirsten Potter has won AudioFile Earphones Awards
for her reading of The Snowball by Alice Schroeder and
her performance as Barbara in George Bernard Shaw’s
Major Barbara. Her reading of Madapple by Christina
Meldrum was a Booklist Editors’ Choice for Best
Audiobook 2008.

I'm also currently participating in TWO big blogging events:

I'm blogging about the importance of choosing the right names for one's characters in romance novels over at Reading Between the Wines Book Club for Writing Romance week.  I'm also giving away a signed copy of Darkness Dawns.  The contest lasts through July 8th, so I hope you'll join me!

I'm also blogging about paranormal brotherhoods (love them!) over at Paranormal Haven for Bookish Haven Summer Vacation.  I'm giving away a signed copy of Darkness Dawns for this one, too.  The contest lasts through July 15th.

BACK ON THE HOME FRONT

Other than that, I'm watering my veggie plants like crazy to help them survive the drought and hoping to get some reading time in soon.

What's happening in your corner of the world?
