He bowed as she turned and entered her bedroom.  He expected her to close and lock her door, not that it could keep him out.

Instead, she drew back the covers and climbed into bed.

Étienne turned off the overhead light and attempted to stretch out on the futon.  His feet and most of his calves hung over the arm.  One of the metal bars beneath the cushions dug into his back.

He sighed.  He could always wait until Krysta drifted off, then sleep on the floor.  That would probably be the more comfortable solution.

He heard bedding rustle and closed his eyes, trying not to picture Krysta sprawled across the covers under other, less appropriate circumstances.

She laughed.

Opening his eyes, he glanced at the doorway.

She was leaning over in bed peeking at him.  "Comfortable?"

"Yes, thank you."

She shook her head.  "You're lying."

"With good intentions."

Still grinning, she waved him toward her.  "Go ahead and come sleep in here with me."

His body went rock hard at the notion even though he knew damned well she didn't mean it the way he wanted her to mean it.

"I . . ." want to rip your clothes off with my teeth, so I don't think it would be a good idea.  "That's very kind of you, but . . ."  I really do want to rip your clothes off with my teeth and explore every inch of your beautiful body.  "I'm fine."

"Your legs are hanging off the end by a good foot and a half and I can't even sleep on that lumpy piece of crap when I'm drunk."

He smiled.  "I've slept on worse surfaces."

"Have you ever slept in a coffin?"

"Yes, but only as a practical joke."

"What about in a crypt?"

"More than once when it took me longer than expected to track down a nasty vampire and I couldn't find any other shelter before the sun rose."

"Was the crypt more comfortable than my futon?"

He grinned.  "Hands down."

Again she laughed.  "Then get in here.  We're adults.  We can do this."

He couldn't find the strength to refuse.  "Merci."  Rising, he strode into her room and circled the bed.  "I'm surprised you trust me enough to sleep beside me."

"To be honest, I am, too.  You really aren't going to bite me?"

"No."  He settled beside her on top of the covers.

"Any plans to cop a feel?"

Her scent enveloped him as he turned his head to stare at her.  "Would you mind if I did?"

"I'm still considering that one."

Yes.  This was definitely a bad idea.

"What is it about you that makes me want to forget what you are," she asked softly, "that makes me believe you are what you are and not one of the vampires I hate so much?"

"I don't know.  Perhaps the same thing about you that makes me want to believe you won't drive a stake through my heart or chop off my head as soon as I doze off."

Curling onto her side to face him, she raised one hand and drew delicate fingers down his cheek as her gaze roved his face.  "Truce?"

"Truce."

"Good night, Étienne."

Heart racing, he clasped her fingers and brought them to his lips.  "Good night, Krysta."

She fell asleep holding this hand.

Alpha Male Madness Giveaway Hop

Alpha Males.  You know you love em.  And so do we!  We're celebrating them and all their delicious alpha male glory for an entire week with giveaways at every single blog.

The alpha male I've chosen to feature is Étienne d'Alençon, hero of Darkness Rises, Immortal Guardians Book 4.  He's a dark, dangerous, and powerful immortal.  He hunts vampires and kicks ass on a nightly basis.  And he adores strong women.  So when he sees mortal Krysta Linz take on four vampires with only a couple of shoto swords, Étienne is instantly smitten.  Now, if he can only find a way to convince her that not everyone with fangs and glowing eyes is the enemy . . .

Here's a brief excerpt.  I'll preface it by mentioning that Étienne is telepathic.  :-)

A low chuckle wafted on the night.

Eyes widening, she drew her second sword and turned in a slow circle. "Damn it! Show yourself!"

"Well, since you asked so nicely," a deep voice laced with a French accent purred behind her.

Gasping, she spun around and swung a shoto.

Once more, he caught her wrist. "Careful." The warning was gentle, carrying neither malice nor anger.

Krysta stared.

His touch sent electricity tickling its way up her arm. His flesh was warm, his long fingers free of callouses.

Her heart slammed against her ribs as butterflies erupted in her stomach. She should be furious. Frightened. Instead, she felt as excited as she would on a first date.

Crap.

Stepping back, she withdrew her arm from his grasp.

Dropping his hand, he tilted his head and studied her with those entrancing amber eyes.

Yeah, he was hot all right.

Short midnight hair glinted in the moonlight. Faint stubble shadowed a strong jaw. Straight nose. Broad shoulders. What was clearly a well-developed, muscular build beneath a black T-shirt that clung to him courtesy of the vampire blood that saturated its front. Slim waist. Slim hips. All revealed by the gap in the long black coat he wore.

She didn't let her gaze stray further. The last thing she wanted to do while facing him was blush like a school girl if he had a nice package.

His tempting lips stretched in a slow smile.

Happy Friday!  Can you believe it's April already?  At the rate this year is going, September—and the release of Night Unbound—will be here in a heartbeat.  ;-)

I have contest news for you.

Love paranormal romance that's dark and intense with humor thrown in?  Want to see vampires returned to their evil roots and fall in love with the powerful immortal warriors who hunt them?  Then enter to win a signed copy of Darkness Dawns, the first book in my Immortal Gardians series, + swag in my contest over at Fresh Fiction!  See how the series began with the book Fresh Fiction called "Electrifying, Funny, Lust-Inducing and Inventive."  The contest lasts through April 30th.  You can enter HERE.

I'll also be participating in the Alpha Male Madness Giveaway Hop coming up on April 11th.  Rumor has it there will be a grand prize.  Plus, I'll have my own giveaway here on my blog.  :-)

I'm eager to give away one of the cool Night Unbound cover flats I just received, so I'll launch another flash contest on Facebook today.  The prize:  A cover flat, four bookmarks, four trading cards, and a postcard.  More flash contests will likely follow throughout the month.  :-)

(I haven't decided what book I'll give away in the Alpha Male Madness Hop, but will include this same swag pack in the prize package so those who aren't on Facebook will have a chance to win.)

It's time once more for Favorite Quote Friday!  I was thrilled to notice that Darkness Rises (Immortal Guardians Book 4) has just received its 80th 5-star review on Amazon.  Woohoo!  The reviewer called it, "Absolutely one of the best series I've read in a while!"  It was a very nice start to my weekend.  So, for today's selection, I've chosen another quote from Darkness Rises that features the heroine and hero, Krysta and Étienne:
"Technically," Krysta said, "I saved Étienne's ass."
"After I risked it to save you."
"That's true.  I thanked you for that, right?"
Have a wonderful weekend!
